The Missouri River in South Dakota

The Missouri River was formed in the 1960’s by damming up the little Missouri River which turned into some of the finest walleye fishing in the world.  The river opens up in early spring from being froze over during the winter.  Sometimes as early as February or March fishermen come to fish with us, which is one or two months earlier than their normal fishing opener. Jig and minnows are key to success this time of year, 1/8,1/4, 3/8 oz jigs, topped with a minnow are killer.

Chamberlain & Platte, SD Fishing

The Chamberlain/Platte area has some of the best spawning areas in the entire river system, walleye swim upstream for miles to spawn in these fertile and warmer waters. After the spawn walleye will move out of their spawning beds and head south down river. Places like the White River, Boyers, Elm Creek, Keiners, Red Rocks, Two Johns, Platte -Winner Bridge, and Platte Creek are just a few places we fish for that incredible walleye.

May-June-July Walleyes at this time are traditionally caught on spinners and crawlers.
